Introduction

The Pakistan Air Force serves as the aerial warfare division
of the Pakistan Armed Forces. Its primary responsibilities include safeguarding
the nation through air defense, providing aerial support to the Army and Navy
as required, and maintaining strategic airlift capabilities.

As of 2021, the PAF had approximately 70,000 active-duty
personnel and was projected to operate around 594 aircraft in Pakistan. Its
core objective is to offer cost-effective and robust air defense in
coordination with other military branches. Since its establishment in 1947, the
PAF has actively participated in combat operations, delivering air support
during military endeavors and relief operations.

According to the Constitution of Pakistan’s Article 243,
the President of Pakistan holds the position of Commander-in-Chief of the
Pakistan Armed Forces. The Chief of Air Staff (CAS) is responsible for
appointing a four-star commissioned air officer, in consultation with the
President and Prime Minister, under legal provisions.
